K9 Safari will not be walking dogs on Monday, Feb 15th in observance of President’s Day. Enjoy your 3 day weekend!
I just want to let you all know that WE ARE walking on Monday, 1/18 as many of our clients are working, as well. Please let us know if your dog does NOT need a walk. Otherwise, we will see our sweet four legged friends at the regular time!

K9 Safari will not be walking dog starting Thursday, Dec 24th, through Friday, January 1st. We will be back, rested and so excited to play with your dogs on Monday, January 4th.
All of us at K9 Safari wish all of our furry friends and their families a warm, wonderful and happy holiday season!
K9 Safari is teaming up with Grateful Dogs Rescue! Grateful Dogs Rescue is a last resort for dogs that are facing euthanasia at the shelter. Please consider opening your home temporarily to a dog in need. GDR and I will provide support, information and help while you foster. You will help save a dog’s life and will be amazed at how rewarding the experience is. Not only will you help a dog find a happy new life, you’ll help a person find their new best friend. If a K9 Safari client decides to foster a dog, we will provide free dog walking while the dog is in your home! Check out Grateful Dogs Rescue’s website to see the dogs that need fostering.

We are loving this warm weather but with it comes the dreaded foxtails and the evil fleas.
Foxtails are little spikey stickers that can burrow into your dogs’ paws and fur. It is VERY important that you check your dogs’ paws, ears and fur for foxtails on a daily basis. They can cause lots of problems once they burrow into the dogs’ skin. We try our best to remove the foxtails we see after the walk but it is always good to be thorough.
Fleas love the warm weather too. If you notice your dog itching, make sure they are on a monthly medicine like Advantage or Frontline.
Though we only get a few REALLY hot days, it is extremely important to keep your dogs cool and hydrated. We always have water accessible for your dog while in transport. Though the beach is ideal on hot days, the sand can often get so hot that it burns the pads on their feet. In result, we choose to go to nice and shady spots so the dogs have the option to rest out of the sun.
Enjoy this wonderful “Indian Summer!”
We hope you all have a fun and wonderful 4th of July Weekend! We want to remind you that K9 Safari will not be walking dogs on Friday, July 3rd, in observance of the holiday weekend.
Also, Please keep in mind that the loud noises from fireworks and celebrations can often spook our dogs. Every 4th of July, San Francisco Animal Care and Control gets numerous reports of missing dogs due to do their fear of loud noises. Make sure your dog is safe and keep them calm by playing classical music to drown out the noise. Also, this is a good excuse to make sure their tags are up to date and they are registered with SFACC.
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
We want to let you know that K9 Safari has welcomed a new walker to our team! We feel VERY LUCKY to have had the opportunity to hire Jodiah Hiebert. He is truly a dog lover! He has years of extensive experience in obedience training and dog care, he created and ran an animal rescue in Ashville, North Carolina, and spent time working as a veterinarian technician. We feel very fortunate to have him join us in keeping your dogs healthy, happy and tired!
Happy Spring!
The weather is fantastic! Unfortunately, with spring comes the dreaded foxtail. Foxtails are a small, annoying, hitch-hiking weed which will plague our sweet dogs. These little weeds may accidentally be inhaled or fall into your dog’s ear. If this is the case, your dog will be sneezing repeatedly or shaking its head emphatically. Foxtails can also burrow into your dog’s paw as well as thick fur so we HIGHLY suggest you check your dog’s paws and fur on a daily basis just to be cautious. Once a foxtail is in it needs to be removed by a vet as soon as possible. You may even want to consider cutting your dog’s hair to prevent problems.
Also, as the weather gets warmer Fleas become more abundant. It is very important to your dogs’ health as well as the other dogs in the groups that you keep your dog on a quality flea control. Please ask your vet what will be best for your pooch and try and be consistent.
Animal shelters are filling up as the economy problems continue to rise. Grateful Dogs Rescue takes dogs from shelters that are on their “way out” and finds them safe and loving homes.
Consider fostering a dog from Grateful Dog Rescue. These amazing people will hold your hand through the process. Any foster dog of a K9 Safari client will get free dog walks until the dog finds a permanent home. Contact Grateful Dog Rescue at www.gratefuldogsrescue.org.
Please note K9 Safari will not be walking dogs this Monday, February 16, 2009 in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will back to play with your sweet dogs on Tuesday, Feb 17th. Have a fantastic three day weekend!
